DC2Diana’s residency with BSA aims to create an alternative, fictional history for the historic buildings, in the form of an artist’s book.

This alternative history, inspired by Bank Street Arts’ ongoing project investigating the buildings’ history, begins with an abandoned sewing box that was discovered during remodeling and bears mysterious initials. The box’s initials correspond to a 53 year old widow, recorded at Bank Street in the 1907 census, and its contents tell the story of a fetishistic affair between this widow and a printer.

Beneath the thread and buttons are hidden sheets torn from books: erotic drawings, photographs, poems, and letters that communicate the intrinsic link between books and sensuality.

“This is a tribute to all book lovers.”
