In conjunction with Sheffield Children’s Festival 2011, we have devised a large scale photography based project and exhibition inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. For this exciting and dynamic project, photographers Sabine Dundure, Timothy Logan, and our new photographer in residence Andrew Conroy have been visiting schools in Sheffield to show children how to create a photographic portfolio of the sports and games they play and watch.
Professional athletes from around the city also visited schools to run sports demonstrations and some schools organised their own sports activities for the children to photograph.
The photographs will be displayed in various venues in Sheffield City Centre including Pond’s Forge, the Winter Gardens, Sheffield Cathedral, and at Bank Street Arts during Sheffield Children’s Festival between 20th June – 10th July.
Some of the children will also go on to take part in the Young Photographers project – part of the 2011 Sainsbury’s UK School Games that come to Sheffield in September.

As part of his residency at Bank Street Arts, Andrew is developing a series of projects for schools and young photographers in the region. For details of upcoming projects email ellen@bankstreetarts.com
