Volunteers
Volunteer experiences can be diverse at Bank Street Arts as each individual redefines their role, resulting in people working on all sorts of projects. Many local people gave up their time to keep the centre functioning in the early days. We owe thanks to them all. Below are some stories from our most dedicated volunteers:
Beth – Gallery Assistant
“Working at Bank Street has been, for me, inspirational and informative. I’ve learned so much about the experiences of working artists and the realities of getting started in the world of creativity, both as an individual and as a business. The people i’ve met and the experience I’ve gained have been invaluable, and I look forward to maintaining a connection with the centre as they provide something truly wonderful for both artists and the public.”
Ellen – Gallery Assistant and Exhibition Curation
“I began as an invigilator at Bank Street in October 2009 having just started an MA in Cultural Policy and Management at Sheffield Hallam. In early 2010 I began working on a haiku project at Bank Street in collaboration with Sheffield Children’s Festival. This has provided me with insight and practical experience of the tasks and responsibilities involved in implementing a project and given me experience of professional liason, developing publicity material for local media outlets, and overseeing the smooth operation of an arts project. I hope to build on the project co-ordination experience I have so far gained from volunteering with a photography project for the 2011 with Bank Street and Sheffield Children’s Festival.”
