The importance of traditional techniques and handcrafted textiles has never been more prominent in my own textile work. This has become more apparent as my day job, producing sewn items in a factory, utilizes modern machinery such as laser cutters, water jet and industrial machines.
Modern technology for producing textiles with its many advances has become a secondary concern, within my own work. I will explore ideas that contemporary textile work is taking place far and wide … being shared and discussed online … without modern technology, either machinery or social media, contemporary handcrafted textiles would not exist … there is an apparent link between the two.
