An exhibition of fine art photography by visual artist Tony Maj.
Tony creates artificial structures and spaces, photographing people and objects within them to express the fictional worlds of his imagination. Tony’s minimalism and abstract creations, aim to transform seemingly familiar environments, objects, and settings to produce a sense of tension, intimacy, and truth. Through the use of the photographic image, Tony explores the manipulation of evidence through abstract gestures. Tony’s images are reminiscent of documentary photography yet celebrate the sculptural and filmic.
Originally a contemporary furniture maker working mainly in European hardwoods, Tony taught himself photography and decided to combine the two disciplines in order to realise his conceptual ideas.
“My approach is to explore the palette of poetic colour through an abstracted viewpoint, blurring its objective with opportunism to evoke a sense of suspicion and expectation.”
