‘Transitions’ gathers together a selection of first and second year work from students at Longley Park Sixth Form College in Firth Park, Sheffield. Courses studied include Art, Media, Photography, Graphics, 3D Design and Textiles from A Level and UAL. The end of year projects displayed are the result of projects where students have pursued themes including Identity, Light and Dark, Organic, or their own choices.
The works are self directed, displaying the culmination of students’ skills and interests over their courses. They include a meticulously embroidered garment inspired by 19thcentury fashion, a large scale abstracted landscape, intricate highly detailed pen drawings on found wood, and a handmade book exploring one student’s grappling with her identity as an 18 year old in a world of selfie self obsession.
Short films and music videos plunge us into the grey areas between the dark and light of the human soul; in one film a girl submerges in hypnotherapy to come face to face with who haunts her; in another a flood in Sheffield pulls a man into his own surreal subconscious. Music videos range from slick and edgy Hip-hop to demonic-infused Metal, and on the lighter side, film posters for the B-movie shocker Octopocalypse.
Join us as we launch this exhibition on Friday 17th of June, 6pm – 8pm.
