The Unsung | Friday 26th May 7:30pm

You’ve heard of Kurt Cobain. You’ve heard of Jim Morrison. Have you heard of Scott Johnson, or Lina Prokofiev? The Unsung is a funeral party for the forgotten fallen heroes of music – not the famous dead rock stars, but the people whose story has never been told. A journey in poetry and sound from Sheffield poet Genevieve Carver and her live band Sarah Sharp, Tim Knowles and Brian Bestall, The Unsung takes you on a whirlwind tour around the world exploring how music has shattered the lives of those who’ve loved it most.

The show has been staged as part of various events programmes including the Ilkley Literature Festival Fringe and Off the Shelf Festival of Words. Audience feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and Now Then Magazine reviewed Genevieve as being “one of South Yorkshire’s best performers”. The show will be touring the UK in 2017, and the tracks are also being recorded as a studio album with accompanying booklet.

In 2015 Genevieve teamed up with Sarah Sharp, Tim Knowles and Brian Bestall, three multi-instrumentalists with a wealth of professional music experience and together they researched and developed The Unsung as a residency project here at Bank Street Arts. Much of the material was written during a week-long residency at Sheffield Theatres as part of Making Room.

You can follow The Unsung on Facebook and Twitter and tickets for performance at can be found on Eventbrite. Be sure to book your place now as numbers are limited.
