Sean Morley: Scriptless Standup

Sean Morley: Scriptless Standup

Saturday 8th October 2016 | n.b., Sean’s workshop is now fully booked

BSA comedian in residence Sean Morley is running another instalment of his Scriptless Standup workshop for devised and improvised comedy performance this autumn. The workshop is open to anybody with an interest in developing their standup, and will teach the skills needed to abandon your ideas in the moment and go with what’s funny, interesting or dramatic to create a dynamic relationship between the performer and audience.

Sean was booked to perform in a pub full of racists watching Sky Sports. Instead of doing his set and being either ignored/ jeered, he began shouting at the top of his lungs and stealing cutlery. It was the greatest creative decision of his life. Now his self confidence is boundless and he wants to create an army in his image. As he notes,

‘Very few comedians arrive at the mic without knowing exactly what they’re going to say and in what order. In a way, stand-up has become more like monologues and the pretence that the performer is in a dialogue with the audience has pretty much been discarded.’

Scriptless Standup itinerary:

  • Dealing With Humans: Terrible People & How To Be Their Friend

  • Resolutions: How To Tie Up These Loose Ends

  • Spontaneous Generation: It’s OK To Just Go With Your First Idea

  • Demeanour – A Friendly Idiot Can Get Away With Almost Anything

  • Pathetic Fallacy: Bad Things Are Actually Good

There is no set cost for the workshop and you can pay whatever you like. Spaces are strictly limited to 12 and must be booked in advance. You can do this by emailing Sean directly at seandcmorley@gmail.com.
