Poetry by Heart Workshop with Anne Caldwell
24/06/2014 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Anne Caldwell will talk about her work with the National Association for Writers in Education www.nawe.co.uk and run a practical workshop that explores poetry and memory. She has been working recently with an organisation called Poetry By Heart (www.poetrybyheart.org.uk) and her workshop will offer a taster of practical tips for starting to write poetry that has an emotional heart to it, and for deeply reading poems by other poets. The workshop would be suitable for poets, writers also interested in working in schools and people starting to write. Poetry by Heart is a pioneering national competition to encourage pupils to learn and recite poems by heart. Not in an arm-waving, props-supported thespian extravaganza, but as the outward and audible manifestation of an inwardly understood and enjoyed poem.
Anne Caldwell is a poet, lecturer, Programme Director for NAWE and works for the Open University. Her full length collection is ‘Talking with the Dead’ Cinnamon Press 2011.
