behind land: poems and paintings

The poetry by Harriet Tarlo and the paintings by Judith Tucker emerge from an extended series of poems, drawings and paintings made in response to a commission from Linda Ingham, curator of the Excavations and Estuaries project. The poet and artist responded to the landscape between Cleethorpes and Tetney on the Humber estuary, visiting regularly between Spring 2013 and Summer 2014 and continue to do so.

Work from the project has been exhibited at Abbey Walk Gallery in 2013, at the Scott Gallery at the University of Plymouth and the Muriel Barker Gallery, Fishing Heritage Centre, Grimsby in 2014 and will also be shown at Hull Institute of Art and Design; “Contemporary British Painting” in London as well as at Bank Street Arts.

“Excavations and Estuaries” and Behind Land are supported by the Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts and Sheffield Hallam University.
