In Praise of Libraries | 6th – 21st October
In Praise of Libraries celebrates reading in Sheffield during the 1930’s and 40’s. Over the last four years the Reading Sheffield team have recorded the memories and reflections of nearly sixty Sheffield readers. These memories have inspired the multi-media artist Lizz Tuckerman, to create an exhibition of sounds and images.
The exhibition is funded by Sheffield Hallam University and Off the Shelf Festival of Words Sheffield. Lizz Tuckerman will give an informal talk with a question and answer session at 2pm on Saturday 14th October. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to book.
Audio records and transcripts collected by Reading Sheffield can be found at www.readingsheffield.co.uk
. Alongside the interviews is a blog which offers short introductions to each reading journey and to the research which Reading Sheffield are doing into contexts that shaped these journeys.
