Academic in Residence, Karen Harvey, invites you to visit ‘The History Room’ from Friday 13th – Saturday 28th January, 2012. Karen is embarking upon a multi disciplinary project which at this stage is very much an excursion into unchartered territory (for all of us). The starting point is the buildings now occupied by Bank Street Arts and The History Room’ will present some of the Karen’s preliminary research. This is not an exhibition as such – more a glimpse into work in progress and a chance for those interested to get involved, learn more or offer their expertise.
Come and find out who lived on the site from the early nineteenth century, including Mr. Jackson’s surgery and stables on the site of the current café, and the shadowy Miss. Nicholson who collected rents from those living and working at numbers 40 and 42.
Karen will also show some of the other research she has done on Georgian houses like those at Bank Street. She is particularly interested in meeting anyone connected with the buildings in any way, anyone who knows someone who has worked or lived there, anyone with photographs of the area or other realia/documentation.
This is the first step in developing collaborations between Karen and the other resident artists at Bank Street and Karen would love to hear from anyone interested in contributing to the project as it unfolds.
Karen will be on hand to discuss the work and answer any questions at the following times:
Thursday 19, 1-2pm
Friday 27, 11.30-1pm
Saturday 28, 1.30-2.30pm
