Earlier this year, Bank Street Arts launched an open call inviting UK artists working in drawing and illustration to submit their work to be considered for a new season of exhibitions. There was a tremendous response, with approximately 80 individual artists offering their artwork for exhibition by the time the call out had closed. From those who responded, Curator Chloe Reith has chosen a selection of artists who have now been invited to display work in the Juniper Gallery and Atrium space in a series of exhibitions to be staged throughout the remainder of this year and into 2012. Together, these exhibitions will form a new short season focussing on drawing and illustration.
Intended to showcase and support unique and innovative artists working in the UK today, the drawing and illustration season will present a varied programme of solo, joint and group exhibitions across the two galleries. Selected for the inaugural exhibitions in September and October are Jade Gilbert and Spike Dennis, artists whose approach to drawing both examines and reflects upon the process of making itself.
The Juniper Gallery and Atrium exhibition spaces have been conceived to provide a commercial platform for artists to present and sell their work. All works are available for purchase.
